Dr. Kiran Hassan

Dr. Kiran Hassan is Research Associate Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London, UK. She holds a PhD from the University of London, with her doctoral research focusing on political communication in post-9/11 Pakistan.
Dr. Hassan has extensive experience in international relations, media research, and strategic communication. She previously served as the South Asian expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London, and has taught International Relations at SOAS, University of London, and Global Communication at New York University.
Her work includes contributions to media-related anthropological research projects, particularly on social media audience consumption patterns, in collaboration with the BBC World Service and the Open University. She also observed and reported on emerging media trends across 56 Commonwealth countries as Coordinator for the media freedom project at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies.
Dr. Hassan's current research focuses on emerging trends in mainstream and social media, particularly in relation to climate change communication, online harassment of women in politics, and the rising Chinese influence on social and mainstream media across Commonwealth countries.
